Members of the Mod Squad are nominated by Board members on an annual basis, the selection criteria is as follows:

A member of the Mod Squad is enthusiastic and passionate about modern architecture in Houston. He or she has a commitment to the ideals of preservation and the tenets of the Houston Mod Mission statement; and he or she has the ability, as well as the desire, to strengthen the organization and serve the community with their expertise and outreach.

Members of the Mod Squad are considered active members in the organization. Members of the Mod Squad carry the corporate responsibility and power-of-vote in the organization. A commitment to attend 12 monthly meeting per year and involvement in one or more committee is required to be a member of the Mod Squad. The term for a member of the Mod Squad is three years.
