The 600ft tall, 44-story Humble Oil Building (now Exxon/Mobil) is one of Houston’s most recognizable modern buildings. It was for a short time, the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. Welton Becket and Associates is most famous for a unique brand of `corporate modernism`, designing office buildings and factories for Fortune 500 firms including Ford, Philips Petroleum and Kaiser Aluminum. Among the firm`s most recognized works are the Capitol Records Building and the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, both located in Los Angeles, CA.

Exxon has commendably been restoring the building`s exterior.
