This building has housed design firms, architects, and even a business college, but it began as Weldon Cafeteria, designed by Karl Kamrath in 1949. MacKie & Kamrath described as the second floor of the building as `an elevated sidewalk café.` In 1999 Ray + Hollington Architects restored the building and won a Good Brick Award from the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance for their efforts. Houston Mod held our first reception in the building in 2003.
