Saturday, December 9, 4:30-7:00 PM
Houston Mod members, Master Mods, and the Mod Squad are invited to celebrate another successful year of promoting and preserving modern architecture and design in Houston and Texas. The evening will include the presentation of the 2017 Houston Mod Preservation Awards.
Master Mod Jeff Carowitz is generously hosting the event at his home designed by MacKie & Kamrath, completed 1968 in Meadowcreek Village. Don’t miss your chance to see this remarkable modern home!
John H. White MD commissioned Mackie and Kamrath to design his family home in 1964. White was interested in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and appreciated Kamrath’s similar design principals. The house, an L-shaped Usonian built of rose-blend St. Joe brick and redwood, was completed in 1968. It includes many elements typical of Kamrath’s work including art glass windows, a wide decorated front door, and built-in furniture.
This section of Meadowcreek Village contains many houses built for physicians from Pasadena General Hospital who later collectively founded Pasadena Bayshore Hospital. Architects Mackie & Kamrath, Clovis Heimsath, Lucian Hood, Betty Jo Jones, James Womack, and Howard Wisenbaker designed mid-century modern houses in the neighborhood. Today a rich mix of residents, both new and long-term original homeowners, make for an active community around the park.
