Meyers, Don Irwin
Irwin Don Meyers was an architect and avid sailor, and known to his many friends as Don, died at home on November 12, 2014. He was born and raised in El Campo, Texas, before enlisting in the US Army Air Corps to serve from 1942 to 1946. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas and practiced architecture in Texas until moving to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1962, to begin his architecture practice where he continued until he retired in 1985. During his long residence in Hawaii, he became a member in both the Hawaii and the Waikiki yacht clubs and became an active competitor sailing Soling and El Toro classes. In 1979 he was elected as the Commodore of the Waikiki Yacht Club and became the president of yachting’s International Order of the Blue Gavel in 1982.
