Skidmore, Owings and Merrill

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is one of the largest and most influential architecture, interior design, engineering, and urban planning firms in the world. It was founded in 1936 by Louis Skidmore and Nathaniel Owings, iand joined by John O. Merrill in 1939.  The firm opened their first office in 1937 in New York City, and has since expanded all over the world; completing more than 10,000 projects in over 50 countries. The firm is renowned for their iconic high-end commercial buildings such as the John Hancock Center.
