This fantasy in precast concrete is perhaps the best example in Houston of the style of architecture aptly called the New Brutalism. The HISD headquarters has a wonderful interior atrium and complex multilevel ?oor plan that is not in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act requirements. As a result HISD plans to sell the 40 acre site and build a new headquarters near the intersection of the 610 loop and State Highway 290 in West Houston. The expectation is that apartments and strip centers will occupy the soon to be former HISD Headquarters Building.
