Please help us find new preservation-minded owners for several vintage modern houses located in and around Meyerland, about 9 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Thanks to Houston MODern Market for sponsoring this FREE event.

This house is the first discovery of a local work by the architect Julius L. Pryzant who designed the house for his own family. The house is subtly detailed and offers great privacy. Sadly, it was flooded and is in need of restoration. The original plans will be displayed at Sunday’s event.

Julius L. Pryzant was a graduate of the Rice School of Architecture and worked with Charles Tapley early in his career. Later, he moved overseas and designed military bases.  He became a licensed architect in 1958.

The Parkwest neighborhood, considered a section of Westbury, is the location of this 1960 custom built house of Asian-influence design. It has been meticulously maintained by longtime owner, architect Morton L. Levy.  The living room and master bedroom have sunken or elevated floors. The kitchen has its original cabinets including an island with cook-top that is unusual for its time. Dual ovens are set within a brick accent wall.  The living room, den, and master bedroom also have brick accent walls.

Morton L. Levy is a graduate of the Rice School of Architecture and became a licensed architect in 1960. He was the president of the Rice Architectural Alumni, AIA Houston, and the Texas Society of Architects.
