The 1950`s marked a time of intense activity for the MacKie and Kamrath practice as the firm accepted commissions from Dow Chemical Company, Humble Oil and Schlumberger to design corporate headquarters buildings and research complex. The Humble Oil Research Facility (now Exxon) was a streamlined modern building well suited to a dynamic local company. The design incorporates characteristic brick with raked horizontal mortar joints, dramatic horizontal ribbons of windows and aluminum infill panels. The lobby includes wood detailing and light fixtures that appear to be lifted from a Frank Lloyd Wright residential design.
