This striking house built by architect, John S. Chase for himself and his family is one of the most interesting and beautiful in all of Riverside Terrace. The architect’s own modern house was originally one story with a central courtyard, and a masterfully integrated second story addition added a glass wall and floating stair over a fountain. The stair has a central landing designed as a dais for speeches, and the Chase family has hosted many important civic and political gatherings here. The house is quite simple in its detailing and is a serene presence, set well back on its lot.
