With this building John S. Chase established the modern architectural vocabulary that his continuing work at TSU would draw upon. Note the contrast between the central cylinder with its overhanging canopy and the strongly horizontal extended wings.  Carroll Harris Simms’s sculpture African Queen Mother is installed in a fountain in front of the building.
